Independence from the supervisor is a vital point when it comes to junior research groups applications. However, this is a sensitive subject for everyone involved. Supervisors and postdocs should brain storm to what extent a possible independence can be made visible, eg either by collaborations, grant proposals, last authorships, short term fellowships abroad etc.
